New Paws on the Block™

For: Puppies 3 - 6 months
Length: (4) 1-Hour Classes
Next Series Starts: Sunday, May 5 9:00a–10:00a
Where: Santa Monica Airport Park -MAP-
Cost: $100
Prerequisite: Two rounds of puppy vaccinations and close to the third round
Trainer: Tracy James
Class content: This series includes the essentials of raising a puppy into a well-behaved, socialized* dog. From life saving commands like come, stay, and leave it to loose leash walking and preparing them to be calm when making new friends, like the vet, there is a lot for them (and you) to learn—but that doesn't mean you can't have fun working together! Bring the whole family.

Trainer tip: A (slightly) hungry puppy is a motivated puppy.

*Puppy Socialization

Young puppies are adorable!!...Which is why they often get away with jumping, chewing, and misbehaving. The thing is, they are learning from every moment of their lives whether you like it or not. This is why it's ideal to start training and socialization them as soon as you bring them home. In other words, teach and reward them for good manners and create enjoyable experiences (aka socialize them) with anything and everything they might encounter in their life.

After four months, this window begins to close and your puppy may become cautious of new people, children, dogs, sounds, items, and the list goes on.

So, don't wait to start training. Sign up for my New Paws on the Block™ class today! If you're interested in getting a head start, I also offer private dog training.

What My Students Have To Say About My Dog Training Classes and Such

My cocker spaniel, Abby, and I are so glad we found out about this class. It was so much fun spending the evening working out with Tracy while we were in town.

Fitness Classes with Your Dog

Training with Tracy has been wonderful! I don’t know if I just got lucky or if she always has small classes, but my class was so small that my dog and I got a lot of attention and were truly able to learn.

Tracy is so helpful in providing guidance to both dog & owner and tailoring it to their specific struggles. Not only is she great with the set training for the class, but she always has an answer when you ask for advice in other areas as well. My dog and I have already learned so much.

Her energy is amazing and she’s so helpful and such a pleasure to learn from. We’re finishing up our beginner class and I definitely plan doing intermediate and advance with Tracy as well!

We took Puppy Class with Tracy and had a great experience! Classes were fun and definitely helped us establish good communication with our high energy pup. We like her positive training techniques and plan to do more classes with her.

We always have such a great time at class. My dog and I take Tracy’s “dog and me” aerobics class whenever we can. It’s such a brilliant idea: my dog gets to run around and get lots of energy out (always the plight of the dog owner), and I get a great work out on top of everything too. The biggest thing holding me back from exercising was having to leave my dog at home, problem solved!

Personal Training & Fitness Classes with Your Dog

Tracy is very intuitive and knowledgeable with dogs. We took a beginning class with our recently adopted rescue pit-mix. She was able to help us tamp out our dog’s anxiety and respond to simple commands at the end of the 5-week course. Practicing consistently during the week is key. Highly recommended.

Dog Training Class

We loved our classes with Tracy! My nine year old daughter attended as well and Tracy was not only good with our dog (a Maltese/Poodle mix) bit also patient and a great teacher for my daughter. As a first time dog owner Tracy has taught us a lot of tips and tricks that really seem to work. Based on my observations of her interactions with the others in the class, sh also seems very adept at tailoring suggestions for the personality and temperament of the dog. Great class, I highly recommend!

Dog Training Class

Tracy of Feet & Paws is such a joy to work with! She has helped my Shadow progress tremendously in the short time we’ve been training together! Tracy really knows her stuff! She does a wonderful job of incorporating props and obstacles to help challenge your dog. Tracy really takes her time in breaking down each step of the training process, maximizing results and making training sessions enjoyable and informative. I highly recommend Tracy and Feet & Paws to anyone interested in having a well behaved and fun dog!

Tracy is awesome! We love her and she’s teaching us so much!

Private Dog Training

We attended Tracy’s beginners class. I have a rescue Yorkie who, while I have worked with her for a year, still has a couple behavior challenges. I am a pretty experience dog person and I learned a few “new to me” tricks. Tracy’s class is great for beginning the basics and will work, if you practice and are consistent!

Laurie F. & Colette

Dog Training Class

I’ve been working with Tracy for over six months now and have seen so many changes in my body. I’m more strong and flexible. She’s really fantastic at what she does!

Personal Training

What’s better than spending time with you dog and getting fit at the same time? Tracy is a great trainer that really listens to her clients, and is also very intuitive with the dogs. It makes for a fun time while working out your muscles! I was worried that my less than perfectly obedient dog would be disruptive, but Tracy always had great training tips while still engaging me in the workout. Highly recommend.

Private Dog Training

Very patient and helpful with showing us what to do. My pup loved it when Tracy would come over to help him learn something new.

Regina & Louie

Private Dog Training

I liked how Tracy was well prepared, understanding, and considerate towards the individual dogs’ needs. Additionally, I appreciated how she was actively responsible and looked after our pack on the trail. She would politely notify people who off-leashed their dogs (of unknown disposition and training) that some of our dogs may not react well. I felt Tracy would be good at managing bad situations should they arise, and would trust her to keep the pack safe. Thank you, Tracy!

Pack Walk Meetup

I find that Tracy is a wealth of knowledge, when it comes to dogs and what their needs are. We had a lot of fun and was very sore the next day. Can’t wait for our next class!

I’m learning new ways to train my dog in behaviors and we both love the exercise. My dog is more attentive to commands and my muscles hurt in a good way.

Fitness Classes with Your Dog

After getting our second dog, we realized that we needed some help. While our first dog was already trained, our new dog, Otto, was a door dasher, guarded the couch, and pulled and was slightly reactive on leash. It was making life a bit impossible. We had Tracy over for a few sessions and she showed us a variety of different tricks to try. She took the time to explain and demonstrate things and, after we had some time to practice, it finally started to click for me and Otto. Life is a lot easier now! We even make it out to Tracy’s fitness class sometimes. We both have a great time. Thanks Tracy!

Awesome trainer! She shows me each exercise so I do it correctly, shares great nutritional tips and set up a program that I can easily fit into my schedule. Highly recommend!

Personal Training

My dog and I took a few Feet & Paws workout classes before deciding to sign up for a couple private lessons with Tracy to work on some issues we were having, (like pulling on the leash, etc). She came over for a few sessions and was very patient showing us what to do. It’s been especially great because she continues to help us with those specific issues whenever we’re at the fitness classes. Gretchen has shown a lot of improvement since we’ve been working more closely with Tracy. I’m really glad we signed up for the private training. Highly recommend.

Meet The Trainer

From the start we had a lot in common: a lack of coordination, the need to put our mouths on everything, and an inability to hold our bladders. Needless to say, my bond with Sandy (named after the dog in Annie), was immediate. All jokes aside, she was my best friend for sixteen years and our friendship inspired my love of animals.

It wasn't until my third year of college, and far from the unconditional support of Ginger, my family's next four-legged family member, that I discovered my interest in health and fitness. I started walking on a regular basis to get away from the computer and relieve stress. Having never been very physically active in the past, I was surprised to find I enjoyed walking so much that, in time, I started walking longer and faster, eventually progressing to running. Over summer break, I kept the momentum and walked and ran with Ginger. It was so wonderful taking control of my well-being with my best friend who was also benefiting from activity.

As I transitioned into the working world, I never lost sight of the impact and joy animals and activity brought to my life. Not yet able to have my own dog (darn you work schedule!), I began volunteering at a local city shelter. I quickly gained respect as an experienced, trustworthy dog handler and even taught other volunteers how to handle and train the shelter dogs. It was both heart breaking and tremendously rewarding work.

Then, in 2010, I had transitioned into another profession and couldn't take living without a dog a second longer.

So, I finally adopted my own dog from the shelter, a beautiful Belgian Malinois mix, Berlin. At this same time my fitness regime had progressed and I was participating in full and half marathons. Soon my favorite part about participating in a race was not crossing the finish line but training with my best buddy. Berlin and I have even walked and ran in several 5Ks and 10Ks together.

All of this made me realize I wanted to help others have it all too. So, I earned by dog training and fitness instruction certifications and now combine and share these skills in the various services that Feet & Paws offers, including dog training class. It is such an honor helping people and their dogs be healthy and happy together.
